Happy Thanksgiving from my Family to Yours

I'm off this week, readers. Taking some time to unwind and brush up on my cooking for some fantab recipes for the cook-off Thursday. :) I want to sincerely thank all of you for making blogging so incredibly fun. The relationships I've made have been incredible. I am truly so grateful to be apart of such an awesome community of creative people!

I am wishing you and your family the most beautiful Holiday season, filled with calories, cute outfits, and maybe a DIY or two :)

See you next week!

Kylie

DIY Plastic Spoon Sunburst Mirror!

Okay ya'll, welcome to the final day of Entry Projects! I have to admit...i'm very excited about how this ridiculously easy Pinterest Project turned out.

I'm sure you've seen this on Pinterest 67 gillion times by now. I'm pretty sure this is one of the OG pins. (You remember when you had to get an invite to Pinterest?!)

Well a friend of mine from work made a few for her house and they looked incredible, so I thought I would give it a go.

As usual, I have a hard time following directions, so I didn't really follow a tutorial, and I ran into a few issues. I suggest looking up a tutorial that rocks, and using it t make your very own :)

You will need:
  • cardboard
  • a small round mirror
  • a crap-load of cheapie plastic spoons
  • hot glue
  • spray paint of your choice
  • a little hook to hang it up with
To start, cut a circle out of your cardboard. I used an old basket I had laying around that seemed to be a good size.

Get your hot glue ready, because you will be using the crap out of it!

Glue your little round mirror in the center of your cardboard. You can find these mirrors in the candle area of Wal-Mart. I already had a few lying around, but they're usually about $1.00-$2.00.

This next part is where it gets fun. You need to break the handle off all of your spoons. I did this while watching this weeks episode of Glee. (Am I the only one having a hard time getting into this season without Finn?) I don't have a picture, but if you're doing this while distracted, it's not nearly as bad as you think. For my mirror (about 13" in diameter) I used 96 spoons. (2 packages of 48 from Wal-Mart) They were on rollback for $1.00 a piece and the only item I had to purchase for this project. Boom!

When all your spoons are broken, just start gluing until your fingers are burned! Simply move around and around until you reach the center. (Please excuse my messy work area. I was trying to accomplish this in under 20 minutes so I didn't clear off the kitchen table ;) )

It's important to stagger your "petals". For each row, make sure that your spoon is layered between 2 spoons, like above.

When I had reached the center, I cut out a piece of contact paper that I wanted to remain. I then sprayed the entire thing down with 2 coats of high-gloss white spray paint. I guess this part isn't necessary if you're using white spoons, but I think it really helped to make it look less "plastic-spoony" and more "pretty-expense-sunburst-mirror-y". :)

After it's dry, attach a little hook on the back with hot glue, and hang it up! You will love it, I promise!

This is one of those projects that makes me SO happy I finally did. It's nice to knock one of those off your "to make" Pinboards, am I right?

If you're just tuning in, welcome! Be sure to check out our Entry Progress as well as our DIY Pallet Wall.

I'll be back with a delicious crockpot recipe tomorrow :)

xo

Kylie

DIY Wood Wall

Tuesday means we're one day closer to the weekend...so lets celebrate with a fun weekend project tutorial, eh?!

Disclaimer- I bought this wood at Lowes rather than by breaking down a pallet. But you get the idea, right? :)

I've been dying to plank up an entire wall in my house since we moved in. I'm obsessed with the idea and it's still not completely off the table. For now, I soothed my wood-wall cravings with this simple collage of boards in our Entry Way.

To do this yourself, you'll only need a weekend, and a pair of extra hands. I didn't take a ton of pictures while we put this up (the excitement got me and I forgot!) so I will do my best to go through the steps with you without them :)

First, take a look at your wall, and figure out a pattern you'd like. Mark it off with painters tape. This doesn't need to be level or perfect or anything, it's just to give you a general idea of your board cuts.

When I had a general pattern that I liked, I measured the different lengths, so I could have my friendly Lowes-handy-genius cut the boards for me.
After you've written down your measurements, head to Lowes to pick up your supplies:
-Wood Boards (the thinner the better, they're easier to drill into the wall this way!
-Wood Stain
-Screws
-Sand Paper

Our boards were just over an inch thick, and I think they're perfect for the look we were going for. You're going to need to do some Math to figure out the best lengths to purchase to stretch your buck further. All in all we spent $18.00 on the wood.

Once you've had it cut, head over to the paint section to grab some stain. We went with a dark Cherry Wood stain and I completely love it.

When you get home, you'll need to sand the rough spots, but don't worry about making it perfect. Jake used our electric sander to get the places where the wood had started to splinter, or if we thought it would absorb too much stain.

As he sanded, I stained. Just like in our Shutter Project. This takes a lot of mindless work, and you'll be aching to quit after this step. So the next step is MANDATORY.

Go out for drinks and dinner:

We decided it was probably best to start again the next day (power tools + drinks don't usually end well + this gave us extra time for the stain to cure)

All we did the next day was put it up! It couldn't of been easier. I laid our all of our stained boards on the floor, to mimic the pattern I made in tape, and one by one we drilled them into the wall.

Make sure you have one person holding the wood steady, because you want to ensure its level, and it's much more likely to move if you're doing it yourself. We installed it with simple silver screws. I didn't mind the screws showing on the wood, I think it adds to the "rustic-ness" of it, however you could use those little teeth grabby hooks on the back, or liquid nails if you're looking for a more polished result.

Once your wall is complete, it's time to DECORATE! I loved the white accessories, like the faux taxidermy Rhino & Stag, as well as the sunburst mirror & little owl hooks. Oh, and no one will let me live down the "Merry Christmas" print I plan to let stay year round.

This entire project cost us around $25.00, and I couldn't be more happy with the impact. Also, Jake is happy that at least one spot in the house doesn't scream "a man had no say in this homes décor". ;)

I'll be sharing how I made that Sunburst mirror in 15 minutes tomorrow, I hope you'll stop by!

xoxo

Until Next Time,

Kylie

Entry Progress

Good morning, readers!

I hope you had an incredible weekend! This weekend we put the finishing touches on our Entry progress. I say progress because there is still a TON that i'd like to complete before it gets an "after" photo :)

I am, however, super excited about the progress so far! This wood wall has been something i've been dreaming to do for months. It's my way of adding some "manly" into our fairly feminine home ;)

The bookpage wreath is an OLD blog project that a made well over a year ago. You can check it out HERE! (But try not to judge the terrible pictures)

I've had a RUG ISSUE. With this room. We've purchased a total of 4 rugs and I haven't particularly loved any. 2 were returned, and I still have this one, and a Navy ikat-ish rug that I'm not ready to give up on. I'm on the hunt for something larger and less "underwhelming" for this space, but for now, this will do.

These are the first 2 rugs I purchased and showcased on Instagram. They both ended up being returned :(

The details of the pallet wall are my favorite. Yes, I am fully aware I have a burlap print up there that says "Merry Christmas". And yes, I do intend to leave it up year round. Shouldn't we all bring a little festive into our homes all year? Plus. I love it!

The sunburst mirror was made for a total of 2.68 cents, and I can't wait to share the details with you this week.

And of course, we can't forget about Rhino Gosling & Justin Timberlake.

I am definitely happy with it for now. It is a nice place to jump off of and sort of marinate with. You know what I mean? When you decorate a space, I feel like you have to live with it for awhile to decide what works and what needs to change. I'm happy to wait for those changes.

Speaking of changes-

1) I need wood floors. Here hoping to a fantastic tax refund that we can use to replace this carpet
2) I'd like some large baskets under the console table to conceal clutter! (conceal clutter under the console..hehehe)
3) We need a larger rug...that goes without saying
4) The ledge above our door needs an overhaul
5) The boob light has got.to.go.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed some progress pictures :) Lets take a look at the before and after:

Just a little lovin' and this is a totally new space!

Come back tomorrow so I can share with you how we created our 20 dollar wood-wall. It took some time, but was SOO worth it!

xoxoxo

Until Next Time,

Kylie

I whip my hair back 'n forth

 HUMP DAY!

Happy Wednesday, my friends! I hope you're already looking forward to the weekend. I know I am! This last weekend we took a few Christmas Card pictures, & I figured it was a good time to document that I actually did my hair. (Which happens...like never).

So strap yourself in for some awkward selfies, ladies & (if you're out there) gents! We're about to get crazy in here.

So I get it...I've got super long hair. Its fairly easy to manage too (please don't throw rocks at me). I'm exceptionally lazy though, so I needed to find a way to make my curls last a day or two. When I curl it this way it will literally stay bouncy until I wash it. And I promise its easy as pie.

Let the awkward selfies commence! Start with clean, dry hair. Spray it down with heat protector, and brush through. The heat protector I think helps lock in style too...so don't skip this step!

Section your hair off into 3 inch sections. I usually take 6 inch sections from the bottom, and split 'em in half to be curled.

Curl one of your sections away from your face. I don't even know what the size of my curling iron is. Maybe an inch? I think its the perfect size for my hair though.

This is where it gets interesting. While your hair is still warm, spritz lightly with hairspray, and twist THE ENTIRE 3 INCH SECTION like so, away from your face.

Let it twist up into itself, and bobby pin it to your head. You may have seen this trick for "Victoria Secret Curls" except you bobby pin every.single.curl. Sorry but, ain't nobody got time for 'dat!

Repeat on your entire head until you look like little bow peep. I'm not kidding...its embarrassing walking around like this.

When I finish the last section, I change my clothes, brush my teeth, put deodorant on and maybe eat some quick breakfast. Give your hair about 10 more minutes to set. If you've got 10 minutes that is...if not just give it whatever you've got!

When you pull out all of your bobby pins don't freak out...you're bound to look like Shirley Temple. Just flip your head over and WHIP YOUR HAIR BACK 'N FORTH! (Preach it Willow!) I just spray some light hold hair spray, run my fingers through the curls, and ...

I only wash my hair once every 2 or 3 days (yes...I still shower daily. I don't bring the funk. :) ) and these curls literally last until I wash my hair. I just have to flip my hair a few times to bring some body and i'm good to go.

What are your hair secrets? Do you have a go to style you couldn't live without? This beauty challenged chick would LOVE to hear your secrets!

Until Next Time,

Kylie

Thanksgiving Round Up

Happy Monday, All!

Great news...only 5 more days until the weekend. :) So, last week, I sort of let the ball drop on my Thanksgiving posts. This daylight savings crap ending really messed with my photo taking times, and it was just not happening. The only post I was able to get out was our Thanksgiving Mantel, and even those pictures suck. So today, i'm here to share with you EVERYTHING...all in one wrapped up little package. :)

Since you already saw the Mantel last week, we will start in the kitchen

Just a few layered printables with some pumpkins on the table. Nothing too impressive, and by now you probably feel as though you LIVE in my kitchen with all of the different pictures I always post of it ;)

Moving onto the entry...

I shopped the house for this one big time. I really wanted to save money for extra Christmas décor this year, so I just threw a cute printable in a frame, and some leaf garland & called it a day. (Another giant apology for the quality of these poopy photos)

We make a quick stop to check out a baby pumpkin in the living room...

He actually has a small spider on him so technically he is for Halloween...but if you flip him around...no one will ever notice :)

Don't forget to check out the wreath on your way out!

My Halloween Mums died, (big surprise there with my black thumb) so I just brought the pumpkins in, and bought a 7 dollar 70% off wreath at HomeGoods the day after Halloween. It even lights up at night!

Remember when I said Thanskgiving decor wasn't my passion in life? I mean, I think this little bit of effort counts for something...but I am truly already counting down the putting up our tree.

But WAIT! The fun doesn't stop there. Gather yourself some awesome printables from the bloggers below :)

I hope you enjoy! Go decorate a little...if anything to hold yourself off the 44 days until Christmas :)

Until Next Time,
